Salix purpurea 'Brittany Green'

Salix purpurea 'Brittany Green' is grown in our willow beds at Lakeshore Willows for basketry.

  • Grows slender, flexible rods with good tension.
  • When fresh it has a beautiful reddish colour dappled with some green.
  • Grows most year without any branching
  • When soaked for weaving it dries up again a beautiful purplish/green colour
  • Great for any part of a basket

Growth Habit

Large shrub if not coppiced

This variety is fantastic for basketry and can also be used for living willow projects or an ornamental in the garden.

IMPORTANT NOTE FROM LENE: I am not a horticulturist and the information provided for each willow variety is based on my observations growing and using the willows here at Lakeshore Willows. The information about growth habit is quoted from Christopher Newsholme's book: Willows, The Genus Salix.
