Salix purpurea 'Oka'

Salix purpurea 'Oka' is grown in our willow beds at Lakeshore Willows for basketry.

Description

  • An old French basketry willow that was found in the grounds of Oka Abbey, Quebec. It was probably brought over from France early on and has since been grown in that area for many years by basket-makers.
  • A wonderful basketry willow that in many ways resemble the Salix x 'Americana'

Growth Habit

Grows into a large shrub when not pruned

Application

This variety works well for basketry and living willow work

IMPORTANT NOTE FROM LENE: I am not a horticulturist and the information provided for each willow variety is based on my observations growing and using the willows here at Lakeshore Willows. The information about growth habit is quoted from Christopher Newsholme's book: Willows, The Genus Salix.
