a Fulcrum Skillshare offering: Willow Basketry for Beginners and Beyond!

This is a gentle introductory class where we will be focusing on the fundamentals of willow basketry in a workshop setting. Basic projects include small round work baskets- shallow trays, berry baskets with simple handles etc.

If you are an experienced weaver who would appreciate a class setting to facilitate continued learning while be supported with soaked willow, this can act as a refresher class or an opportunity to take your own direction and lean into guidance where it is needed. Two spaces will be made available for modified/custom programming. Please reach out after registering to coordinate with Johnny so he can bring willow that is suitable for your needs. (additional fee for willow may apply)

Beginners can expect to learn the basic techniques to make a traditional round stake and strand basket: the 3x3 base slath, twining, bi-staking, 3 rod waling, bark weaving, and trac border.

Intermediate to advanced weavers can guide themselves by using a base that they are familiar with, and then leading into specific advice for side weaves and techniques as the class opens up. The beginning of the class will not have so much space for teaching that is not in alignment with the introductory lesson, but after bases are made and stakes are in there will be more time to provide guidance for folks with other focus.

All tools and willow needed are provided by the instructor. Co

This workshop is being offered at FULCRUM SKILLSHARE 2026, entry into Fulcrum Skillshare is MANDATORY (this is NOT a stand alone offering). Exact date and time of class is TBD but this will be a full day offering requiring 6hours minimum weaving time.

Maximum of 8students per workshop.

ACCESSIBILITY DISCLAIMER Weaving willow can be quite hard on the hands and wrists, as we are essentially weaving with wood. If you have pre-existing problems with your hands/wrists/arms/back, this class could prove challenging to you. Most baskets require moderate hand strength to weave properly. It is frequent that people mention having sore hands afterwards, and that people end up with a blister here or there (or here AND there!). If you have concerns but you're still keen feel free to reach out via the contact page.

CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS  A refund of 50% of the workshop fee and 100% of materials fee will be issued when canceled 2 weeks or more before the workshop date.  Less than two weeks before the workshop, tickets will be considered transferrable to another party, but non-refundable. If for any reason we need to cancel the class, 100% of workshop and materials fees will be refunded to you.

TAXES  HST (13%) will be added to the total fee at checkout.
